1971 MV Agusta 500-3 Cylinder
Described by Giacomo Agostini as his favourite bike, Agostini won seven consecutive world titles on the 500cc 3cylinder from 1966 to 1972 including 5 senior TT wins. This ¼ scale re-creation measures 49cm long (19inchs) and a entirely hand crafted by Glen English in his Cornish workshop using only Traditional tools and skills.
Glen studied the 500/3 MV for may years obtaining as much information as possible even to the extent of being lent a Red MV 500/3 to copy making this model 100% accurate in every detail, even down to the colour. The wheel rims are engraved “Borrani made in Italy” and are laced using bespoke made spokes, the wheels are all hand built as you would a full-size wheel.
Tyres are the period correct Dunlop Triangular KR73-76 the tread for these was cut into the master pattern using only a pencil, chisel and scalpel. Then a mould was made from which read rubber tyres are made.This model consists of over 1000 pieces, there are over 100 parts in the fairing alone, all hand laid up Glass fibre, for this a very fine weave glass was obtained to keep the scale of the model, the inside edge also has the correct strengthening strip with over 80 rivets plus a hand beaten aluminium underbelly with removable inspection covers.
Glen will be making only 19 of these 1971 500cc 3cylinder MV Agusta models each model is supplied with a museum quality acrylic display case.
